Butterflies/Moths 3-4 Weeks (Science)

Covers: vocabulary, anatomy, life cycle, stages, metamorphosis, observation,
documenting changes of real caterpillars and butterflies kept in rooms.
(Put materials in Science/S.S. notebook)
Insects 3 Weeks (Science)
*Own materials and curriculum collected- fun facts, characteristics of what makes an
insect, anatomy (head, thorax, abdomen, compound eyes, antennae, jointed legs), life
cycle, development, protection, helpful and harmful aspects, observe and record live
insect observations.

Invertebrates 1-2 Weeks (Science)
*Own Materials collected- Study spiders, life cycle, anatomy, eating habits, movement.

U.S. Symbols! ! ! 2 Weeks! ! (Social Studies)
Teacher created packet used that includes: name of symbol, location, description, why
it’s important for our country, two interesting facts, an illustration, and the resource
used. At the end of the symbols studied, a report is created together. Some of the
symbols included are: Statue of Liberty, Bald Eagle, White House, Liberty Bell,

United States Regions 4 Weeks (Social Studies)
Teacher created information sheet and books from AEA on each state. Study by
regions starting in the NE. Move to the SE, Midwest, Plains, SW, NW and Pacific.
Include information: States in region, what are they known for geographically, important
events in history, famous people from those states, favorite things from that area. Also,
learn names of all 50 states through use of song split up by sections. Students give
state reports in one format: 1. Written report orally read, 2. State Brochure, 3. Concept
Poster, 4. Plan Family vacation, 5. Make state scrapbook including all information.
Food Pyramid, and Healthy Habits 4 Weeks (Science)
AEA Materials AEA KM 07412 2L Health Edco Faux Foods, books from AEA including
food groups, health and nutrition
Use Yellow Nutrition Curriculum Guide Book to learn about the food pyramid. Teach
new “My Pyramid. Spend two days on each of the groups. Learn names of groups,
foods included in each, nutrients in each group, and serving sizes. Taste test foods
from each group. Plan healthy, balanced meals.

Know that there are three branches of Gov’t (Legislative, Judicial, Executive) main
jobs of each, learn jobs of President, complete presidential project, (folder with
personal and historical information on one president.)

Learn characteristics and examples of each of the 5 animal groups that make up the
vertebrate category. (Birds, Fish, Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians)
